Bluenote, i do not see your problem. Is it the fact you do not like the programme? If so then i would say look at the viewing figures. That is the only way you can tell the popularity of a programme. And my comment was neither pompous nor a lecture. Its a point of view, which I am more than allowed to have. If people enjoy watching the programme, what is the problem? There is a wide range of programmes on the BBC. Now I am not the biggest fan of having to pay the TV licence, but because i do not like a particular programme, I would not stop others doing so.

And jenny, like it or not, you are not going to like every programme the BBC puts on. That is impossible. You could just as easily watch BBC2, 3, 4 or BBC News if you wished. They have to cater for a lot more people.
