Free Speech for all

Published: Saturday April 26,2008 by NickEd

Not just for people who happen to say things I agree with.

Seems a reasonable principle wouldn't you think.

Obviously this needs to be balanced against the law in general - incitement to racial hatred or murder trumps generalised freedom of speech, but there doesn't seem to actually be any suggestion that in this case the lady in question said such things. And wore a headscarf.

Interesting subtext to the article though: there doesn't seem to be any suggestion that she was acting as a lawyer while reading this statement. So should it be that I, as a computer programmer, should have my right to free speech guaranteed, but lawyers should not? Or is it just lawyers with darker skin than mine?
