As for Precscott claiming £4k for food, I wonder how many people in the country have a lot less than that on which to feed their families? Probably most.
It's beyond time that things were changed to prevent this kind of abuse. It would be quite simple to stop a lot of it. An empty office block, such as the ones that currently stay empty as a tax break for the owner, could be bought and converted to flats in which MPs could live rent and utilities free while in office. This would be a great deal cheaper in the long run than the current system, and no room for fiddling.
There should be no allowances for office staff, who should instead be provided centrally and paid for at a fixed rate.
