Death Penalty and Stronger Punnishments Needed Through More Jails

Published: Monday February 25,2008 by mikepowell

I agree with jojam on this. There should be a death penalty. Current figures state that offenders are simply not afraid of facing consequences of their actions because the ones in place are so limp and pathetic that it makes a mockery of our justice system.

The natural option would be for tougher jail sentences and I couldn't agree more - life must mean life, but whilst the Government is wandering around with it's eyes shut and it's hands covering its ears over the prison capacity crisis a death penalty could help stem the tide of the growing prison population.

I agree that death penalty should only be used if there is 100% proof. Thankfully wonderful things such as forensics make this possible today, thus making the old argument of possible miscarriages of justice redundant.

So yes - we should bring back the death penalty but not as an excuse to avoid building more jails. Effective justice would strongly benefit from both.
